BAT BOY THE MUSICAL

Director: Andy Ahrens
Musical Director: Tammy Papps
Choreographer: Kerry Hauber

Ripped from the headlines of The Weekly World News, BAT BOY THE MUSICAL is a classic love story with a serious bite. This delicious twist on the modern day musical comedy tells the amazing story of a strange boy with pointy ears, his struggle to find a place in a world that shuns him, and the love that can create both miracles and madness.

** Winner of the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical **

Don't be fooled by the title. Director Andy Ahrens says. "Audiences want break-through theatre that sends the drama to new levels and experiences. Actors want challenging roles they can digest and have a whole gutful of fun at the same time. This is it! Bat Boy The Musical will have you in tears of laughter and then suddenly have you in spine-tingling suspense. A dynamic and unique musical in more ways than one. Be a part of sending musical theatre to new dimensions in this bloody marvellous musical premiere."

Roles:

Cast size: 12-16

All cast will have major ensemble work, characters, lines to sing and dialogue to say in this multi-levelled ensemble production. Several ensemble members will have solo songs and may act in duel roles. Comic timing, flexibility and ability to work as an ensemble essential.

Bat Boy: Stage age 17, a half bat, half human who is discovered in a cave. Large singing and acting role for a young male performer. Experience essential. Will accept older performers to audition for this role (will have special make-up)

Meredith: Middle aged compassionate mother who takes Bat Boy in to care for him but with a deep secret.

Dr Parker: Meredith's husband and desperate for her love. Becomes twisted and tormented as the play progresses. Think of a really nice guy and add a touch of Sweeney Todd.

Shelley: Their teenage daughter, naïve but becomes engulfed in the tragic Bat Boy story in her search for adulthood.

Sheriff: Middle to older aged gentleman who tries to appease the townsfolk at all costs. Is very worried about the upcoming election.

Pan: God of the animals in the woods (half goat). Singer essential.

Rev. Hightower: Priest with great gospel singing style. Singer essential.

Mrs Taylor: Mother who has her three children all die tragic deaths.

Ron / Ruthie: Mrs Taylor's kids who find Bat Boy in cave.

Rick: Mrs Taylor's oldest son and Shelley's boyfriend. Sings in rap / hip-hop style and really doesn't like the bat boy.

Ned/Bud/Roy: Three farmhands who are not the sharpest tools on the rack. Comic ability beneficial here!

Lorraine/Daisy: Two townsfolk with singing and acting lines.

Maggie: The Mayor, bossy and assertive.
